Aptos is a small town made up of several quaint villages in an unincorporated area of Santa Cruz County that includes Rio Del Mar, Aptos Hills-Larkin Valley, Cabrillo, and Seascape areas. Additionally, it is home to the historic Aptos Village, and holds the entrance to the beloved Forest of Nisene Marks State Park. Outdoor enthusiast’s enjoy the 30 + miles of trails and can find remaining mill sites and trestles still existing among them. While exploring the Covering 10,000 acres, traces of the once-booming logging and railroad industry can still be found. For the history officianoto’s, stop by and check out the Aptos History Museum houses which offer a collection of artifacts, photographs and other historical artifacts from native Ohlone Indians.
If you love the beach, Seacliff State Beach is the perfect spot for a picnic; with barbecue grills and shaded tables along the sand, what more could you ask for! After lunch, take a leisurely walk along the mile long seaside paved path that runs parallel to the ocean, and enjoy the adjacent views of the fossils of extinct marine animals embedded in the bluffs. “The Cement Ship,” a favorite local landmark, the ‘S.S. Palo Alto’, is docked at the end of the pier. Once an experimental concrete ship at the end of WWI, “The Cement Ship” – has now become an artificial reef for marine life.
A dynamic new town center encompasses the heart of Aptos Village; a family-friendly spot where local retailers and boutiques, artisan ice cream, local retailers, boutique coffee shops, destination eateries, and a quaint park come together to make the most of their local community.
