Capitola

Established in 1874, as a tent camp along the Monterey Bay, Capitola began as a little village and was also the first beach resort in all of California. Today, you can still enjoy Capitola Village and all it has to offer. From the brightly colored shops, and seaside restaurants, window shopping while snacking on all the local treats along the way; Capitola is a classic example of Santa Cruz living.

Capitola beach is perhaps one of the more popular beaches; beach goers from far and wide come to enjoy the picture perfect beach environment. Whether you like to surf, paddle board, skim board, boogie board, swim or just want to bask in the sun on the beach, this beach is sure to have something for everyone is your crew! And if you want to switch up your daily activities, grab a rod and take a walk down Capitola Wharf and drop a line; no fishing permit is required when fishing off the pier! Want to catch something bigger; feel free to charter a boat and go out to see what the Bay has to offer!

During the summertime, the Capitola Beach Company, has a rental trailer on site at Capitola beach, and it is stocked with everything from surfboards and boogie boards, down to beach chairs and umbrellas! Additionally they have a little boutique down the street for any extras you might need, like beach attire; so if you forgot something at home, they have you covered! If you cannot find what you are looking for there, rest assured that you will likely find it at one of the other quaint beach boutiques here in the village.

Food in Capitola; of course you need to enjoy some of the local favorites! Start at Gayle’s Bakery & Rosticceria for the most delectable pastries and top-notch breakfast; with so many options you are bound to leave there with some great treats to help hold you over until lunch! Some great options for food later in the day include, Zelda’s On The Beach; it is a great spot for live music and food/drinks enjoyed on their oversized deck located right on the beach. Next door you will find, Paradise Beach Grille and its comfortable dining room, and their illuminated patio overlooking the Bay and Soquel Creek. Another local favorite, The Sand Bar & Grill is famous for their Bloody Mary’s, spectacular breakfasts and scenic location. Looking for a “special occasion”, kind of place? Why not try Shadowbrook?
